Mic*Itaya started his career as a fashion designer and fashion illustrator when he was studying at Tama Art
University in Tokyo. After graduation, he became a freelance illustrator and designer and set up a design studio
with avant-garde musical band members. He was in the first generation of Japanese artists who synchronized
their artistic activities in two different fields: music and design. In 1982, Mic*Itaya gained international
reputation as the art director of the music cassette magazine "TRA", that featured the cutting-edge arts and
designs at the time, packaged in sound and visual. In 1988, he launched a series of works under the name of
"STELLAFINE", and a motif of the imaginary kingdom of "STELLA" was presented in a wide variety of products
-such as art objects, clothing, and utilitarian goods. The"STELLAFINE"largely influenced many people with
its innovative approach including the experimental "traveling shop", where the works were exhibited and sold.
In 1989, Mic*Itaya established the design company, Power of Beauty Co., Ltd. A pair of books named "PRESENT
RED" and "PRESENT BLUE" came out in 1991 as the first published collection of his works, and made an
exceptional sales success for "art book". His first major solo exhibition "PRESENT" was held in connection
with the publication and was a huge success as well. In 1993, he released a drawing collection book and a music
CD at the same time, both being named "ANGEL" and linked together. Mic*Itaya has always been leading ahead
of the time with his unique talent as an artist and a designer. Pursuing the harmony between two contrary
themes, elegance and avant-garde, Mic*Itaya, who lives the aesthetic life, continues forming and coloring his
"Beauty Doh" (a road to the ultimate beauty filled with discipline and spirit of the artist).
